Owned by local mother-daughter duo Margot and Ayisha Stotter, the cafes serve up favorites like the Jerk Chicken Bowl and pound cake.

Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health

Enjoy a cuppa while supporting a good cause from mission-based Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health. Founded by Christopher LeMark, the organization aims to educate various communities about the importance of mental health by providing free group and individual therapy in high-poverty neighborhoods. The Normalize Therapy Cafe has a temporary location on the second floor of Lululemon in Lincoln Park, and a permanent location is opening at 1051 W. Belmont this spring! Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health also has merchandise available so you can show your support online.

Luella’s Southern Kitchen

Chicago’s best Southern kitchen is calling your name! Located in Lincoln Square, Luella’s Southern Kitchen is inspired by owner and Chef Darnell Reed’s great-grandmother Luella, who moved from Mississippi to Chicago in 1943. First-timers should order the Shrimp and Grits and Luella’s Chicken Gumbo.

Plant Salon

Indulge in self-care when you shop at West Town’s Plant Salon, which brings together founder Nika Vaughan’s passions for the beauty industry and houseplants. The boutique is a lush, calming oasis that sells easy-to-carry plants and offers a range of products from indie beauty brands.

PupStars

This one is dedicated to the pet owners! Boasting 10,000 square feet, PupStars Pet Care is the perfect spot to take your dog when he/she needs exercising or a place to hang while you’re at work or on a trip. Originally founded by Tara Robertson as a dog walking operation in 2006, PupStars now has additional services including cat care, training, and puppy parties for the newest member of your family.

Tea Pot Brew Bakery

Flavor meets love at Tea Pot Brew Bakery, where desserts are baked fresh daily in small batches. Owned by Veranda Runsewe, the South Loop bakery serves up beloved Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins, Citrus Pound Cake, Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, and an array of coffees, teas, and gelato. Custom cakes are made to order, and soups, sandwiches, quiches, and bagels are also served regularly. Any leftover produce gets donated to local shelters, so nothing ever goes to waste!
